Art project in the maisonette suite of the Arthotel BLAUE GANS

During her week as Artist in Residence at the Blaue Gans, Sissa Micheli developed a work in the maisonette suite of the Arthotel Blaue Gans. The point of departure was Virginia Woolf's "A Room of One's Own", in which the writer pleads for a separate room for women writers in a male-dominated society. Micheli stayed on the last floor in the maisonette suite, which is reminiscent of the room with the spinning wheel in Sleeping Beauty. She thus created "a room of my own" in which she could create artistically. She "occupied" the hotel room with objects of the staff. She asked cooks, cooking assistants, baristas, waiters, dishwashers, receptionists, chambermaids, the porter and the hotel owner to bring five personal items from her apartment. With these objects she created an installation of floating objects and gave space to the people working in the hotel who did not have a room there. She brought objects of the people working in the hotel, who live in and around Salzburg, into a room in the hotel. Different social classes and cultures were represented. The work thus contains a political-social component. Objects from the staff from different social classes were collected in the top room of the hotel. Micheli acted like a collector who appropriates objects from others to furnish her own room. The objects float and seem to be weightless or frozen in falling.
