28 CHANGES OF ADDRESS - PASSAGE PROJECT
Künstlerhaus k/haus Passagegalerie, Vienna
During her stay in Paris, Sissa Micheli set out on a search for traces of the exiled writer, art theorist and philosopher Walter Benjamin, who changed addresses 28 times in his life. After the occupation of large parts of France by the Nazi regime, he decided to emigrate from Paris via Spain to the USA by ship. Sissa Micheli dealt with this undertaking in her studio during her stay in Paris. A boat made of moving boxes lies symbolically on her bed. She combines cardboard furniture, a kind of restoration of Benjamin's precarious situation and living situation in his last room in Portbou, Spain, where his last journey (the last passage) took him.
