ACCUMULATING DISAPPEARANCE
C-prints, 60x60, 2009
Sissa Micheli experiments with the dissolution
and disappearance of visual media in many of
her works by playing with their transient character.
Conserving analogue and digital visual media
forever is impossible. That is to say her works are
about recognizing the media’s irredeemable claim to
immortality. At the same time, she also wants to
question the claims to truth in photography and video.
The framed photo series was taken
with an expired film reel, and dissolves
increasingly from one picture
to the other. Here the ambivalent
power of seduction and the aesthetic
quality of transience become evident
in an exemplary and symbolic way.
