The video insides is part of the
“Lebendige Lerchenfelder Straße”
project. The production is about the
Lerchenfelder Straße. In a succession
of fictitious scenes, the film depicts
the stories and happenings taking
place behind the façades of public life,
hidden from the everyday gaze of the
passer-by. These phantasmagorical
scenes deal with relationships. They
are either about the confinement
and ties of relation-ships, or private,
intimate matters lying on the borders
of the taboo.
The scenes do not follow logical, linear
narratives; these are depictions of
unreal moments meant to highlight
the inconclusive and the unconscious
while simultaneously broaching the
issue of the often fragile, precarious
relationship between interior and
exterior spaces.
Through this confrontation with the
inner life, insides should be viewed
as a ‘mirror for the circumstances of
existence,’ and the viewer of “insides”
is able to perceive mental states and
sensitivities that are normally
meant to be hidden. The boundaries
between the inner and the outer
are ripped open, and, for a short
moment, the walls and the streets
in ‘Lerchenfeld’ are permeable,
providing a fleeting glance into the
dreamed and imagined world behind
the street façades.
