In her series "On Transient Phenomena. The Folds of the Mind", Sissa Micheli creates fascinating temporary sculptures with flying garments that celebrate the ephemeral and transient in a sensually dynamic play.

Based on the concept of the fold going into infinity, as described by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze in his book "The Fold. Leibniz and the Baroque" (1988), Micheli shows references to Baroque metaphysics. According to Deleuze, matter is organised in external folds (replis); the process of perception, on the other hand, forms folds in the soul, which is lined with folds (plis) from within. A way of thinking is revealed that thematises the process of folding and unfolding and engages in the business of drapery.

The silk fabric, which looks like a textile drop, is equally reminiscent of the blue of the cloaks of the Madonna representations of the Renaissance. Lapis lazuli was the colour that became a "spiritual colour" due to its preciousness.

The works "On Transient Phenomena. The Folds of the Mind" also symbolise the basic characteristic of photography, to capture a moment that is imperceptible to the human eye, to freeze it visually and to give it meaning.
